Re: your Jan. 1 article, “State adds 745 laws”:
In 2011, as in previous years, the California State Legislature couldn’t come close to creating a valid balanced budget, but that didn’t deter these economics-challenged solons from passing – and our clueless governor from signing into effect – 745 new laws.
Thanks to lawmakers in Sacramento, kids now must stay in booster seats until age 8, a boost to that industry. Eventually they’ll have to stay in booster seats until high school graduation.
One of the famous new laws is that if you don’t have a driver’s license, the authorities cannot impound your car. If you do comply with the licensing law, watch out! You could lose your vehicle!
Pharmacists can furnish hypodermic needles and syringes without a prescription. Who do you think will benefit from that? Another law says if you are under 25 and homeless, you are exempt from fines for truancy, loitering and violation of curfew. Isn’t that what homelessness at any age is all about?
Now that California schools must teach about accomplishments by gays, lesbians, etc., will kids be forced to read Oscar Wilde and listen to Tchaikovsky?
The law that takes the crown for vicious stupidity, is AB459 by Assembly member Hill that disenfranchises California voters. In essence, it says that no matter how we vote in the state for a presidential candidate, whoever gets the most popular votes throughout the USA. will also get our electoral votes. Does that mean if Mitt Romney won the electoral vote in California, but Obama won the popular vote nationwide, California’s electoral votes would go to Obama?
Stupid is as stupid does, and our Legislature and governor represent the epitome of that status.
Happy New Year.
