The National Alliance for Public Charter Schools on Tuesday
announced the release of the third annual rankings of state charter
school laws across the country – and Arizona’s law fell from 11th
to 15th.
Measuring Up to the Model: A Ranking of State Public Charter School
Laws analyzes the country’s 42 state laws. Each state is scored on
how well it supports charter school quality, accountability and
growth.
Arizona’s law dropped because other states made significant jumps
in their ranking.
There were 508 charter schools in Arizona last year, comprising
more than 23 percent of the state’s public schools. More than 11.5
percent of public school students were attending charters in
Arizona, according to an earlier report released by the National
Alliance for Public Charter Schools.
