GLEN ROCK — Two high school students were arrested after three middle schoolers accused them of inappropriately touching them, police said in a statement Monday.
The school initiated an investigation into the allegations on Jan. 24, police said. The two boys were arrested on juvenile delinquency charges, the juvenile equivalent of aggravated criminal sexual contact and lewdness, Police Chief Frederick P. Stahman wrote in the statement.
“Complaints were served this morning to the two juveniles,” Stahman said on Monday. “They were served with the complaint regarding the actions they took.”
The victims, also boys, said the incidents happened in the middle school during an after-school sports event, Stahman said, declining to be more specific. Police did not release any details of the incidents or the identities of the boys, who are all minors.
Glen Rock school Superintendent David Verducci would not say whether the students involved were disciplined, adding he could not discuss specifics of the incident because law enforcement is involved.
“We’re monitoring this carefully,” he said.
Verducci said district officials operated according to policy, regulations and all applicable laws.
“Nothing will happen until the police are finished with their side of it,” he said. “The district acted very appropriately. We take issues like this seriously and act very carefully to make sure that all party’s rights are protected.”
Board of Education President Rona McNabola said trustees have confidence in the way the school district and borough police will handle the incident.
“The board is pleased knowing that our district wide policies will be followed in this matter and in all matters,” she said. “I am confident the superintendent will inform the board at the appropriate times after the police investigation.
